(Sacramento, CA, USA: July 27, 2011) - The Linux Professional Institute (LPI), the world's premier Linux certification organization (http://www.lpi.org), announced that they are joining the Information Technology Certification Council's (ITCC: http://www.itcertcouncil.org/) "TechCertRegistry". This service is a first-of-its-kind Web-based credential registry for the IT industry and allows IT candidates, certification program managers and employers, to aggregate, validate and verify IT credentials from participating members.

The ITCC "TechCertRegistry" (http://www.itcertcouncil.org/ITCCTechCertRegistry.aspx) is a voluntary program for both participating certification providers and IT professionals. The "TechCertRegistry" permits IT professionals to manage all of their certifications using a single account and unique ID which works for all participating certifications and testing providers. As such, IT professionals can easily aggregate certifications from multiple organizations in a single, secure report and present a full credential portfolio to employers and other parties.

"LPI has always been interested in any forward-looking initiative that increases the value of certification for our professionals. This initiative will enable our alumni to showcase their Linux credentials along with other IT skills and certifications. In addition, we are pleased about the voluntary aspect of this initiative--our certification holders will be able to decide for themselves their level of participation. We believe this new service will greatly assist Linux professionals in demonstrating their skills and knowledge to both employers and prospective clients," said Jim Lacey, president and CEO of the Linux Professional Institute.

The ITCC "TechCertRegistry" also offers numerous benefits to administrators of certification programs and to employers of IT professionals: certification programs can reduce verification costs through the elimination of manual processes and increase the value of their program through association with other credentials and reduce fraud; whereas employers will be able to instantly verify a candidate's credentials, making it easier and more cost-effective to find and hire qualified candidates.

"I'm thrilled that LPI has made the decision to join the "TechCertRegistry" and I welcome them to this program. The "TechCertRegistry" as a service becomes even more valuable as additional certification providers, like LPI, join. Now Citrix, Novell, HP, IBM, and LPI certificants will be able to aggregate, view, and publish one portfolio that reflects all of these credentials," said Julieann Scalisi, ITCC Chair and Managing Director of Global Education for Citrix.
