Your Zorp remains strong
After the latest version when the whole secure socket layer was opened, now two new proxies are released. Also, the program-stacking feature is extended with the possibility to set the connection state in Zorp. Lets see the details.

Two important proxies related to e-mailing have been added to the version 3.9.2: POP3 and SMTP. Both the POP3 or the SMTP proxy can be used even when the traffic is encapsulated in secure sockets layer, by setting the ssl properties of the proxies. The SMTP proxy supports the STARTTLS method as well, just like the FTP proxy from Zorp GPL version 3.9.
A formerly existing feature has also been extended in this release. Until now, program stacking allowed you to pass parts of the traffic to an external program, for example, to filter or modify it. Now it becomes possible to make decisions about the traffic based on the results returned by the external program. That way, Zorp GPL can block traffic that an antivirus or spam-filter identifies as virus or spam.
We also pay an old debt with this release. The source code of the kzorp kernel module has been released together with a binary version of the module for Linux 2.6.32, based on the kernel of Debian Squeeze, where kzorp is the part of the package. A step-by-step instruction list can be found in the readme file, which describes how to compile a custom kernel with module kzorp.
To make easy to feel the power of Zorp we made a bunch of virtual machines. A well configured client, server and firewall, all of them running Debian Squeeze, serve this goal. After downloading the virtual machines, just configure a host-only interface according to the network topology graph and the machines are ready to use. The configuration directory of Zorp on the firewall host is a git repository which contains several examples.
