(Los Angeles, CA, USA: February 21, 2013) The Linux Professional
Institute (LPI), the world's premier Linux certification organization
(http://www.lpi.org), announced that its Linux Essentials program which
measures foundational knowledge in Linux and Open Source Software has

"Given the educational imperatives that exist today in the United
States, this is an important first step to ensure innovative Linux and
Open Source technologies are included as part of the regular K-12
curriculum. This will greatly assist educators in their efforts to
develop the professional IT workforce of the future. LPI applauds the
CSTA on this initiative and is proud to be the first educational
resource accepted by the CSTA Curriculum Committee as a resource
crosswalk," said Jim Lacey, president and CEO of LPI.
CSTA "crosswalk" templates designate curricula and other educational
resources as aligning with learning standards detailed in the CSTA K-12
Computer Science Standards
(http://www.csta.acm.org/Curriculum/sub/K12Standards.html). CSTA
standards also align with other US-based educational standards such as
Common Core State Standards, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and
Math) Cluster Topics and Partnership for the 21st Century Essential
Skills. LPI's Linux Essentials program is listed as an example of a
CSTA resource crosswalk here:

”We know that in this education environment, learning standards are the
key to ensuring that students are acquiring the knowledge they need to
thrive in our new global information economy. We believe that the steps
LPI has taken to ensure consistency and alignment with the CSTA
standards are a clear indication of their commitment to excellence in
learning and teaching”, said CSTA executive director Chris Stephenson.
