and technical support to its partners in the program, giving them the

HP to sell pre-installed Mandrakelinux systems in Europe
Just ahead of the Solutions Linux conference in Paris, HP announced
that it plans to provide and support pre-installed Mandrakelinux
solutions across its entire range in France from February onwards. In
the announcement, HP praised Mandrakesoft's comprehensive product
range, saying that it was this diversity that guaranteed the ability
to adapt to all HP's products, from the portable to the server. As
well as Mandrakelinux itself, HP will be pre-installing Corporate
Server, Corporate Desktop and Multi Network Firewall on some systems.
This will ensure for the first time that French customers can buy a
full range of high-quality, tested and supported systems running open
source software. This announcement is just the start of the program,
which HP intends to extend throughout Europe in the near future. You
can read the announcement (in French) here.

Mandrakelinux and Interoperability
You might have heard that Microsoft's latest bright idea in the PR war
against Linux is interoperability. In a public memo, Bill Gates
claimed that "the open source development approach encourages the
creation of many permutations of the same type of software
application, which could add implementation and testing overhead to
interoperability efforts". Mandrakesoft wishes respectfully to
disagree, and we're not alone - this story on ZDNet quotes analyst
group Ovum dismissing the argument, along with a comment from our own
Ga=EBl Duval. To underline the point, news recently arrived that the
new Corporate Server 3.0 product has gained Linux Standard Base (LSB)
2.0 certification. You can read more about this here.
