OK...time for some bitter truth here. While leaning into the Linux Learning Curve, you are going to encounter some bumps. Now, Linux is NOT Windows and it will never BE Windows. Linux is superior to Windows because of their differences.
Now there are tears and laments about new users needing to use the command line. Advocates such as myself agree, it can be frightening to the new user. But as in most new experiences, once you confront them, you later wonder why you were worried in the first place.
A few New users sniff and turn up their nose at the suggestion that they need to learn some commands. Some I have encountered regressed into full blown snits and refused to use Linux because they "may" have to do something at the command line.
Carry your crybaby @$$ back to Bill Gates. He and AOL are the one personally resonsible for turning you into a computer idiot in the first place. Operating a computer should be easy, I will give you that. However, the computer user must take some responsibility in learning how to do so. If you do not, you cannot complain because "the computer" won't do certain things. Sure it will...you simply need to make it do it.
Windows has mentally destroyed an entire generation of computer users...and if you are one of the ones outlined above, you can either take a couple of hours to learn a powerful system or continue to have your butt powdered by Microsoft. They charge alot of money to do the powdering by the way.
The Windows Culture has taught you that Linux is hard. No it's not, it's different. If you can function in add/remove programs in Windows, you can use Linux.
For those who have conquered their unjustified fear of the command line, we proudly present to you a hilarious but instructive list of command line commands and how to make them work for you. This is so easy people...if my 12 year old daughter can do these...well, I'll let you finish that sentence. Forge on...the Power of Linux awaits you.
all comments above are the sole responsibility of helios. We, the remainder of the Lobby4Linux staff would never speak to our new users in such a harsh manner. Please forgive helios if he sounded a bit abrupt...he's just finished converting his wife to Linux. 'nuff said.
