Developer of 'Nature's Linux' Operating System and Datacenter Management Solution to Work With OSDL in Advancing Linux in Japanese Markets

BEAVERTON, Ore. and TOKYO, Mar 10, 2004 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The Open Source Development Labs (OSDL), a global consortium dedicated to accelerating the adoption of Linux, today announced that IP Telecom has joined OSDL and will participate in OSDL's Data Center Linux and Carrier Grade Linux working groups to advance Linux in Japan.

IP Telecom was founded in Japan in 2001 to provide software, services and support for Internet Protocol (IP) network environments. The company's core software product, Nature's Linux, is a Linux distribution integrated with datacenter management tools designed to increase the convenience and reduce the TCO of operating and using IP networks. IP Telecom will join Fujitsu, Hitachi, IBM Japan, Intel, Miracle Linux, Mitsubishi, NEC and Toshiba Solutions in OSDL's Japan working group to strengthen Linux features for the Japanese market.

"IP Telecom will work with OSDL and its members to improve the features and reliability of Linux," said Sekizaki Yuichi, president and CEO of IP Telecom. "We will contribute to a basic OS that will provide the IT infrastructure foundation for a highly developed and comfortable society."

Enterprises are embracing Linux in Japan. Market research firm IDC predicts that Linux adoption will continue growing at a much faster pace than Windows and UNIX in the Japanese server market. According to IDC Enterprise Server Tracker, Linux server shipments will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 40 percent from 2002 to 2007.

"With the rapid global adoption of Linux, we're excited that IP Telecom is joining OSDL to help accelerate Linux development in Japan and increase their participation in the worldwide Linux development community," said Stuart Cohen, CEO of OSDL. "This newest OSDL member will bring a wealth of knowledge about the use of Linux in Japan and its potential for use in the datacenter and the desktop."
