I agree with you. This author is clearly out of touch.
That would _have_ to be classed as a hostile takeover
Would sun get nailed by any regulatory bodies for trash-talking Linux and specifically Red Hat for years before making an acquisition attempt on them?
If Sun acquires RedHat
I don't think it will goble and close it down.
Sun needs money - and RedHat makes a LOT of money.
Business don't go on a path of expensive revenge. Buying RedHat in itself is already a revenge But its for their own interests and that of shareholders to allow the company to carry on being profitable while gaining more Linux intelligence.
Solaris advertisement is always of the type: Run Solaris and Linux side-by-side. ie: Have 2 powerful OS for the price of 1
In fact I will place my bets - that will happen in the next 6 months.

Yep.. looks like a acquisition target to me.
The Sun rumor mill is full of wild (and UNTRUE) acquisition stories right now. I guess Sun needed some free publicity.
I really DO NOT see Sun doing a Linux distribution acquisition. I can see them (far reach) acquiring some kind of Linux integrator or other channel (though none will meet Sun's standards).
With that said, Novell is certainly a better "target"... but there's so much conflict on the product lines... way too much.... I think Sun plans on moving out of the "pit" on their own, and I think they are well on their way.
