The up-and-coming Ubuntu Linux distro is now regarded by Redmond as a serious innovator with features worth ripping off. Microsoft just started by copying Ubuntu's human circle logo for their MSN Spaces logo - see this MS page and this Ubuntu page and this ubuntu screenshot - of course stylizing the image to a cold blue, instead of Ubuntu's warm human.

This is a joke, right?

Let's not feed the "ownability of trivial ideas" meme.
It IS a very blatant RIPOFF ... but hey, if M$ wants to give credability to Ubuntu by ripping off it's logo, let them. When they then try to sue Ubuntu for IP violations, we all know which came first ... the chicken or Ubuntu! (The answer would be Ubuntu if you're having a 'monday moment')

Joke? What's so funny about intellectual property theft?

Nothing at all.

Well, what about Ubuntu ripping off Scripp's logo?

Keep in mind that I run two Ubuntu servers, and I love the OS dearly.
Imitation is the most sincere compliment.

Inded, if this is IP, I side with those that maintain that it doesn't exist.

Odd, the Ubuntu Ripoff characters are all femmes

Is that an attempt to differentiate themselves, or are they aiming for the gossip market? Or something else?

Either way, they've managed to make the colours suck even more than Ubuntu. (-:

On a slightly more serious note, going with the browns was both bold on Ubuntu's part and probably also a reflection of genuine input from the non-Western components of their team. AFAICT, non-Westerners in Microsoft are largely sepoys, mindlessly echoing the policies and tastes of Redmond.
