Microsoft has invited Michael Tiemann, president of the Open Source Initiative, to start a constructive dialogue. Tiemann says he'll take the offer at face value but calls it an"attempt to quell an internal civil war" at Microsoft.

Is .Net really not taking off as much as MS hoped/expected?

My gut feel: it is too early for MS to be really serious about cooperation when the old ways are still so successfully remunerative.

I personally would feel very leery about talking to MSFT. They have more cash on hand than most nations, for crying out loud. It's known that they resort to all sorts of illegalities when convenient. Keep you hand on your wallet I say. Don't deal with them unless you are a single orphan with no dependents and an unimpeachable past.
