Hi folks,
At linuxcounter.org I found a very old table, some stuff with os-popularity related to search engines. It dated back from something like 1997 or so I think. I liked the idea to measure the web-popularity of os'es by the number of search results I got from some search engines, so I started a new search-engine based web-popularity-table, which is located at http://www.geocities.com/hkwint/winlin.html I'm planning to update it the 19th of every month from now on. For the first month, things I noticed: -For some reason, almost all search-query's at google return twice the number of results compared to last month; -And, yes, as the title said, Linux seems to become more popular. But this are only results of one month. So check this site from time tot time, it might have more stats in future, and hopefully I'll be able to generate some nice charts in the sometime! |

"-For some reason, almost all search-query's at google return twice the number of results compared to last month;" The Google Index doubled from 4B to 8B a week or two ago. See link below http://www.metamorphosis.org.mk/eng_vesti_detal.asp?id=225 |

Just proves how easy Windows is! Not all this wasted time checking why your system has crashed, you already know. My laptop installation is more than a bit flaky, and it crashed on me last night (Mandrake Linux 9.1), but it was really an unusual event. |

This would be more interesting if there were a word or two about what the numbers mean. What is being counted? What is taken as a percentage of what? Etc. |

Indeed, I should explain a bit what the numbers mean etc. Going to work on it! |
