This question is about the article:

Microsoft Pushes for Privacy Legislation

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11...

What's wrong with it? (Think!)

If you still don't know: Melinda Gates is in the board of directors of Washington Post (thanks to Tom for pointing me to this fact a while ago). I don't think they are con$erned about my privacy, I think this is another step to DRM etc.

This is Microsofts move against Massachusetts. Tie the whole country up with a law that accidentally on purpose over-rides state law. So at a swipe, Massachusetts are back to where they were before. And the risk of something similar happening elsewhere is quashed at the same time.

Very clever and desperately cynical.

I do hope the US doesn't go down this road because if they do, Europe will be next.

f Microsoft can get in with the big content providers via a privacy law then the next thing will be "no one without Windows can access American content".

It would be a mistake of epic proportions if this were to happen.
