No mature Open Source media players play from audio cd? Uh?

Apart from Xine and Mplayer and Amarok - which also does libraries and context.

Then there's Streamtuner/ripper for which there's no WIndows equivalent (winamps online media library is not the same and winamp doesn't allow recording of streams).

And there's grip and soundjuicer for ripping.

What is NewsForge playing at?

I agree, did they not know the audience this article would see?

I have four different programs I can choose from on my computer to listen to CD's with.

Noatun, Kaffeine, XMMS, Xine and MPlayer.

Sorry, that's five. :-)

Let me react to what he didn't say:

None of the Linux offerings are Windows Media Player.

Twaddle is about right. What is this guy running? He seems to have a background mainly in Unix. http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~doug/

He certainly hasn't tried any of the latest desktop distros.
