I have been searching this evening for Linux + notebooks, laptops, desktops, computers, etc. I have not seen anymore misleading Dell links popping up. Can anyone else confirm that this appears to be cleared up now? Please include the source URL (the page with the ad link) and the target URL (where the ad link takes you). Also, screenshots are useful. E-mail screenshots to: don our.domain (you know, lxer dot com) |

Don: I sent email via the contact us link a day or so ago. The ad was on the LXer front page. :( |

We saw that and appreciate your help. I didn't get a chance to respond to the e-mail. Bob is aware that some of this is Dell's problem and there's only so much we can do. Keep us abreast of any obvious issues you see! |

Don, Just to let you know, the ad that I sent you early this evening is appearing consistently. I've seen it a couple more times tonight including right now. |

I just did a page refresh and can see the ad myself. That's similar to what was at the top of the front page the other day. Might be the same exact ad. I'm capturing all the info - I'll include it in my upcoming article on Dell's Linux adventure. Thanks to all for the feedback! |

Well, the Dell ad leading to the Windows machines is still showing up today. At least the second ad is for Minix. This is on the front page, just as it was earlier. |

Abe, the search is for "Linux desktops" which fails. "Linux desktop" brings up a link to the Dell FOSS page. |

Ubuntu brings up this http://search.dell.com/results.aspx?s=gen&c=us&l=en&cs=&k=ub... No big deal, I was just giving feedback at the time. |

Dell is still using "Linux Computer" to redirect to a Dell page selling Microsoft Windows machines (6/1/2007). Google ad showing "Linux Computer" http://www.flickr.com/photos/67085308@N00/525174395/ The "Linux Computer" link clicks to here http://www.flickr.com/photos/67085308@N00/525174397/ The computers on page directed from the "Linux Computer" link are Microsoft Windows machines. Ummm, the open source PCs link is right on the left side in the photos. I realize that is not as user-friendly as we would like, but I really think Dell's Windows PCs keep coming up because Dell hones in on "computers", "desktops", "laptops". In attempting to learn more from Google, I found out it is not a simple matter to get too specific on the Google ads. |

@Don, it is indeed not. In order to have the problem totally fixed, Dell would need to exclude Linux as a keyword from *all* running ads, then duplicate all their ad campaigns, add the Linux keyword back in and change the links to point to the Linux computers. Basically, it would double the size of their ad campaigns. Then again, I do think Dell should fix it for the really obvious keywords such as "Linux computer", "Linux laptop", and "Dell Linux". |
