um.. where did the offensive headline come from?

The article headline reads "Privacy International demands apology from Google over smear campaign." I don't care for the phrase "bitch-slapping", and almost as bad is misspelling "alleged". O Fine LXer editors, would you please consider changing it? |

I agree that the term is inappropriate, and so is the category. "News story" it is not. "Editorial" at best, but even that is a stretch, since the story was neither spell-checked nor usage-checked. "Google was slated for many reasons..." What is that? |

Thanks Carla. I agree with your point. It's fixed. I don't allow that in my forums, and advised the poster to review our ToS. I'll make the editors aware we need to be a little more attentive. Aladdin: The story is, in fact, a news story - not an op/ed piece. A story's category is not dependent on its quality. Apparently, the author assumes, having established the context, that his audience would understand what he meant. I caught it, but agree he probably should have been a little more specific. |
