He says the difference between Open XML and Open Document Format is that Microsoft’s format has been engineered to the nth degree to allow access to legacy files, right back to the first version of Word, with integrity.

Does that mean that they're going to write Open XML plugins for all Word versions back to the first version of Word? Or does that mean that they're going to make the latest Word capable of opening the first version of Word's files?

Either way, it's not really anything to do with the Open XML 'standard' - is it??

Is this what Microsoft mean when they say they're focussing on security more these days - that they say stuff so confusing that nobody knows what they really mean?

I was informed there were going to be OpenXML compability packs for some older Microsoft Office versions, the oldest being 2000 or something, by Raul Pesch, MS - The Netherlands.
