This story is out of date. There is already a flash-based iPlayer on bbc.co.uk. It works fine for me (using the proprietary Adobe plugin - I didn't have any luck so far with gnash).

It is true that it is only possible to view shows online, and only up to 7 days after transmission. Apparently this is because of the DRM issue (the download is supposed to self-destruct after 30 days!).

However, DRM goes down with consumers like the proverbial lead balloon, and more and more companies are recognizing the fact. I therefore wouldn't give up hope of a more liberal licensing regime in the future - to quote from the BBC site:

"The file sharing and digital rights management (DRM) technology we use is only compatible with Windows XP and Vista. We are aware of demand to expand this to other operating systems, please check at a later date for any further news."

Seems you should take a bit of your own advice, the story was only linked here not published.

Actually, I found the article OK*. It may have been out of date (SOSweekly seems to be as weekly as Gentoo Weekly News!)- which is sad, but I did enjoy reading it.

*The other Matt Hartley articles serve as the frame of reference here

Ah, the old "long news queue" strikes again. Still not quite buying that story.

Another Matt H. story was just posted that's also severely out-of-date: The State of Google's Everex Linux PCs

He should post a big disclaimer at the top of his site: "Warning: I'm always out-of-date by almost a month!"

I was going to point that out, and also criticise the title of the article - specifically the "Google's" part of it... but since there are no prizes for being the first to spot the daily Hartley-ism I decided not to.

Is it possible M. Hartley has an agreement with whoever he´s getting paid by that he won´t put his articles on his Mad Penguin blog for at least x-number of days after it is released by the PTB?

It's the Green PC, not Google PC. So it's late and lame. I commend jacog for self-control; I didn't even try :)

AFAIR he sometimes is a month in the future...
