Another amusement for some is the ongoing farce SCO is foisting upon the legal community in its sinking defenses to Novell's motions regarding SCO's bankruptcy "reorganization". One of the better places to follow the never-ending saga of SCO vs Novell and Linux continues to be PJ's http://www.groklaw.org

Well, if we're mentioning comics of interest, if you like Girl Genius, then Phil's earlier comic might be of interest:

And these are ones I'm currently reading:

and the geek favorite:

and finally, http://www.keenspot.com/ has a number of comics of interest.

Actually, I recommend against Groklaw for those recovering from illness. It isn't good for the blood pressure.

1.) Set up VirtualBox

2.) Grab your ole' copy of Windows XP Pro.

3.) Install Windows XP in a virtual machine.

4.) Watch the pretty colors from the progress bars.

5.) Install huge software suites into said virtual machine.

6.) Watch every point of progress made.

That oughta kill a few hours....

Nixed, that sounds like fun! Then, when it's finished, open up a command line in XP and type "del -r *.*" or whatever the right command is.

I recall seeing a Youtube video of someone who did that with "rm -rf" in a virtual Linux install just to see what would happen.

Your all going to love this.

A friend asks me to install XP on his machine, it goes without a hitch.

I do the updates, and then as soon as I click on the network adapter, the whole machine shuts down..over and over again..

AFTER THE UPDATES!!!!

And then it will not reinstall because all of a sudden there are files not found on the install disk!?!?!

I almost, almost drop kicked it across his living room.

I told him we would "re-visit" his XP install..

How to install Windows XP:

1) Install your favorite Linux Distro http://distrowatch.com/

2) Use the distro's repositories to install VirtualBox, or download the tarball and install it yourself. http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

3)Install your legal copy of XP in virtualBox http://www.virtualbox.org/download/UserManual.pdf http://colorfulcuriosities.blogspot.com/2007/11/virtualbox-c...

4)save a copy of the vdi file so you don't have to re-install

5)start browsing the web using ie and win xp until nasty things happen.

Your cold will still make you feel like cr@p, but you'll be reminded how bad people who use Windows everyday feel even when they are not sick! Glow in the warmth of knowing how much better off you are than them!

> How to install Windows XP:

I have an online acquaintance who has finally had enough of supporting her dad's XP machine, and is trying to do exactly that. I haven't heard anything from her yet. I'll have to ask her how it's going.

Well, I can tell you that XP in a VirtualBox works well, but then I've already told y'all about it in another thread.

The anguish of changing XP hardware bit me today. My wife's machine began randomly shutting off. So I pulled a server out of service (same 1ghz athalon) and put her disk drives in it.

Wow! What a nightmare! "detecting new hardware" over, and over, and over. And I cannot locate the driver for the sis sl7012 onboard sound. Even the manufacturer doesn't carry the drivers for it anymore. Argh!

Also, in the conversion, the C: drive went from 85% full to 65% full. I have _no_ idea what vanished, but there is no "iexplore.exe" any more. Luckly the "normal" explore.exe handles internet addresses just fine... Firefox vanished too, I had to reinstall that. Twisted!

If you need amusement, go read http://www.uncyclopedia.org . Just start somewhere (news on the right of the frontpage would be a good place) and click on a few links. IT-related pages (Vista, Vista communistic article, Linux etc.) are not really funny, better start reading about BMW, Albert Einstein, Starbucks, Texas or Johan Sebastian Bach or so. If you're not faint of hart and not quickly offended the article of Hitler is quite funny too (especially pictures).

After you get the hang of it, create an article about Enderle.

The Libertarian Enterprise published today http://www.ncc-1776.org/ has a series of articles on people's personal firearms. It makes good escapist reading.
