TheVarGuy talks about the kind of support that has always worked for me. Hold the n00bs hand, you may end up with a staunch Linux advocate. You may even fall in love.

Touche! Although this next comment is not entirely on topic it is definitely related. When the subject of support comes up the pro- Windows people seem never to talk about how much users pay for support. My personal experience (with family and friends) is that they do pay; they may pay Microsoft directly or they may pay Best Buy or someone else, but they do pay (and pay). It is no wonder that there are so many who must protect Microsoft at all costs; they are dependent upon Windows breakage and security issues to provide customers. The VarGuy and you are, of course, correct, and provide a path away from the Microsoft trail of tears.

Yes when computer shops talk about not wanting the trouble of supporting Linux, what they really mean is not wanting to lose the assured income that achy breaky windows provides them with.

Exactly Tracy, The chances of a Linux user coming in for anything other than advice is minimal at best. They would have to be straight-up lied too in order for the retailer to make the kind of money that preinstalled Windows machines coming back for RAM upgrades and such do.
