US copyright terms were never 7 years.
Original terms were 14 years with 14 year renewal. In 1831, that went to 28 years with a 14 year renewal. In 1909, it the renewal was extended to 28 years. Not today's insanity, but still pretty long well before Disney's lawyers got into the act. |
