I searched for "linux" on the website of microsoft, and the first result was an article "How to Remove Linux and Install Windows on Your Computer" http://search.microsoft.com/results.aspx?mkt=en-US&form=MSHO... Way to go microsoft!

A few years ago, if you had searched for "windows to linux migration" on MSN.com, it had maybe 30 results and all of them were how to uninstall Linux.

Microsoft is not inconsistent, I'll give them that.

I always thought "How to uninstall [OS]" type tutorials were weird. Isn't uninstalling any operating system pretty much just a format and repartition type exercise?

Not necessarily so, I remember reading the experiences of a programmer that became interested in Linux while working at MS. What impressed her was how easily Linux was uninstalled at the command line. i believe this is a hold over where MS Windows had to be the first installed OS* on a multiboot system otherwise it overwrote any preexisting installation.

Nonetheless, formatting will do the trick. Indeed when I upgrade Linux I opt to retain only the /home partition and wipe all others by reformatting.

Txt.

* It is my impression that this restriction may no longer be true, however, I cannot confirm it from experience.
