Hans, you gave me a good chuckle :)

I guess it will be better for Ubuntu, but in some way I think stuff like this is unfair for the FOSS world. Even though Ubuntu is FOSS, its starting to have some nasty effects :(

Yeah, it is called influx from the Windows world. These new refugees are gravitating towards Ubuntu as the "windows, but without virusses and cost".

Since Linux^H^H^H^H^HUbuntu has become mainstream, the need to research the Linux phenomenon (and finding your own individual niche) has become extinct. So newcomers seldom look into alternatives. They just replace Windows with Ubuntu and call it a day.

We're at the point that any article writing about a cool FOSS thing almost has to include the phrase "...for Ubuntu". If you don't, your article will only be read by aging Linux beards.

Or by people that can think a bit. When I talk to someone about Linux, I propose them to use Linux Mint or Ubuntu, after I explained them what Linux is. This is what should happen everywhere, instead of articles just mentioning Ubuntu and nowhere Linux. And I think Canonical is also to blame, as they basically don't mention Linux on ubuntu.com.

Hans, now that's funny. Wish I'd thought of those witty lines.

/me looks at tuxchick to see if she's sharpening that No. 2 to write another article, since that happened the last time that same opinion was uttered by yours truly. :-)

Whatever happened to "Linux for Human Beings"? Cononical leaving out "Ubuntu Linux" may be hurting them more than helping them. I don't think there is a negative cannotation with "Linux". After all, you commonly hear "Microsoft Windows".
