Use repo on Ubuntu?

There are a lot of these respins of Ubuntu around. Might it be possible just to use their additional repos with a regular Ubuntu install? That way you get the extra software without having to do an install.... |

That would be one way to do it, montezuma. However, why would you do that rather than just use another *buntu with all the bells and whistles? The point of this distro, apparently, seems to be Ubuntu with scientific stuff for scientists. |

Ah, good reason :-) But I think you can probably access other Ubuntu/Debian repositories through Synaptic (it's Synaptic they use, right?) if you really wanted to. |

Well I think the key is that this is specialised math and science software not in other repos.....I wonder whether TC knows the answer ;-) (he wonders idly) |
