Feedback? to what end? They've done this before. Probably to give the appearance of Doing Something, and avoiding actually doing something. |

For one they can stop granting patents for "ideas" that are obvious or mathematical in nature. |

First order of business should be to change the funding stream of the USPTO. It should be funded by the Federal Gov. to become totally independent from big and small corporations. That doesn't necessarily mean to stop charging for applying and granting valid patents. On the contrary, it should be another source for additional revenue to fund the cost of doing the necessary investigation and research for patent uniqueness. |

I found this quote very interesting:Quoting: "While public attendees will have the opportunity to provide their individual input, group consensus advice will not be sought." Unfortunately, interpreting that statement is rather like interpreting a Rorschach ink-blot (but I'd venture that the cynical interpretations are the ones more likely to be correct). |

To be seen to be doing something is clearly more Import Something that will actually work. |

"Advice will not be sought." Because they know what kind of advice they're likely to get: suggested trips and anatomical impossibilities. |

here's the take on this from TechDirt http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20130104/03150421580/us-pat... Conclusion: Quoting:Those are important issues, but it shows where the USPTO is starting from, and it's not about taking a wider look at issues related to software patents, but looking for ways to patch up some of the symptoms of the larger problem. I suspect he's right. |
