Whether they are incompetent or evil is debatable, but one cannot deny that MS is loaded. And those with lots of money typically get things their way.

On the bright side, given their track record this century, Minecraft will not be enough to save MS. Of course, to Minecraft users, that may not be good news.

I personally never cared for Minecraft, it's a simple, boring, bloated Java game. I remain totally uninterested in it, even after giving it multiple tries.

However, I guess the Microsoft deal would invalidate this statement?

Not that sales of Minecraft dying anytime soon is at all likely.

The Redmond kiss of death. They don't want the game, they want the dev talent. Which they can then waste as they do everything else that is good.

@tuxchick

I wouldn't be surprised, Carla, except for the rumoured price (not that I can see what else would be worth that much). But presuming that you're right, then how do they keep those talented devs from jumping ship (or is that part of the negotiations)?

Microsoft has money to burn. They can't keep people from jumping ship. It wouldn't be the first time MS has wasted a giant gob of money, and it won't be the last.

There must be some patents involved.

Microsoft is definitely burning their money, when they should be reinvesting it in their core business. But it is fun watching them flail around now, like a fish with its head cut off.

AwesomeTux, for those that do love the game ...the fun is all over. no matter what platform you play it on.

And I must admit, I would find it hard not to change my mind about a commitment like the one you reminded us of ... if someone waved $2,000,000,000 under my nose. Just to be honest.

With Minecraft being a JAVA app, how long before it gets ported to C#/.Net? (only semi-serious).

Seriously though, it must stick in their craw that a successful application is a JAVA app. MS don't have a very happy relationship with JAVA in general.

I don't get the fuss with Minecraft. It is like Sim City with bad graphics.

Maybe it is because I am colourblind but I find it really difficult to look at. My kids think it is great though.

Don't knock Minecraft just because it runs on Java. It's Turing-complete.
