Getting Rid of Microsoft Does Not Go Far Enough

Microsoft already has many problems. One day Microsoft won't exist anymore. But that does not guarantee users' freedom.

Microsoft: By Default, Destroy Linux

For a lot of software on GNU/Linux, it is nowadays not possible to install/use without systemd

Torvalds' Number Two Quit Linux a Decade Ago and Has Since Then Earned an Honorary Doctorate

Cox isn't limited to hardcore kernel stuff, having also worked on GNOME and X.Org. Unlike Torvalds, he's not shy to use the "F" word (freedom).

Free Software Won't Fix Equality, But It Helps

Can Free software bridge the economic gap? Well, it certainly can help. Removing financial barriers can help a lot. That can also help people from underprivileged communities or developing (poor) countries get involved, either as developers or something else.

12 Days Have Passed Since the Edward Brocklesby Revelations and Debian Project Has Said Absolutely Nothing About That

One must therefore assume they have nothing to say in their defence (covering up severe security failings). IMAGINE something very damaging being presented, with full context, based on original material, right from the horse's own mouth. One might expect, at the very least, a face-saving statement, such as "well, that was a long time ago" or "we learned our lessons"...Well, Debian does not work that way. Instead, like a cult, it only attacked the messenger.

A Smokescreen for Brad Smith

Maybe the key point was to say "Linux is not secure either" or "Windows and Linux are equally vulnerable", so don't bother dumping Microsoft.

LibrePlanet 2024 and the Lost Video/Audio of Talks

Please consider helping them piece together the missing bits. Dozens of people spent a considerable amount of time preparing these talks and some traveled (physically) to Boston in order to present these talks.

We need to publicly talk about those things because if we lack freedom of expression we will, in turn, lose our freedom of thought. In turn, in the absence of facts, people lose a sense of reality. Lies become perceived truisms or axioms

NotABug.org as Another Cautionary Tale About Outsourcing One'e Code-forge (Relying on Other Parties)

Not "bashing", just pointing out a pattern

Gemini Protocol Turns 5 Exactly 10 Days From Now, Let's Encrypt CA Falls to 7.3% as Over 90% of Capsules Sign Their Own Certificates

Gemini Protocol officially turns 5 only 10 days from now.

Preserving Information About Debian's SSH Blunder (Amid Revelations About Edward Brocklesby (ejb) and "Proximity to Oxford and GCHQ")

How did Debian get something so basic... so very wrong?

GNU/Linux Now 20%+ in Norway's Desktops/Laptops, Over 10% Across All Devices

Norway seems like quite a "world leader" in GNU/Linux adoption. Nobody would argue that Norwegian users do so to "save money". Norway is a rich country.

Edward Brockelsby: how expelled hacker took over Debian's SSH2 package

  • Techrights; By Daniel (Posted by schestowitz on Jun 7, 2024 11:32 PM CST)
  • Story Type: Security
It is now more than 48 hours after my first disclosure about the Edward Brocklesby affair and there is no comment whatsoever from the Debian security team. The only comments they make are to attack me personally, a reprisal for raising another serious security concern.

Tux Machines Party (and Protecting Women From Bullies)

I keep getting contacted by people who had been serially defamed by the serial defamer. They tell me they wish to testify on the matter. Some just ask me questions about it, for instance: "What did they send your wife?"

Free Software is the Future, Open Source is Just Openwashing (Proprietary With a False Marketing Twist)

Bruce, of Debian and OSI fame, spoke to me about a bunch of topics and gave me his phone number. One subject that came up was SFLC or Prof. Moglen, not necessarily in relation to the trademark dispute (over SFC, which seems to have resorted to the same serial defamation it had weaponised against other high-profile people).

RMS is an imperfect person (who isn't?), but trying to cancel the father and creator of GNU/Linux isn't about "perfection", it's about orphaning what he created

What is Secure Boot?

Let's focus on what real security means

A 3-Year Campaign to Coerce/Intimidate Us Into Censorship: Targeting My Old "Tweets"

UEFI restricted boot (an attack on all computer users) was originally the reason for its chief enabler - and Microsoft collaborator - attempting to silence me or, failing that, defame me in public fora (shooting the messenger, ad hominem).
