As one example of this phenomenon, the SUSE Linux system that I use for my public Web and e-mail server originally only had 512 MB of RAM. This should have been more than adequate for the lightweight load that I was expecting, but the system tools showed that the box was constantly running low on memory. And even after I bumped it up to a full gigabyte, the system still complained.

Novell delays SUSE 10.1 release
According to a Novell Inc. confidential memo dated June 14, Novell will be slightly delaying its next release of both the server and desktop versions of SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 "to address final issues with our new package management, registration, and update system and also fix the remaining blocker defects."

IBM showed a wristwatch running Linux. The operating system's potential for use in mobile phones was obvious. What has been lacking is a leading force – as Sun has been with Java. In Japan, however, NTT DoCoMo has been an ardent proponent of Linux for phones. Indeed, it has produced outlines for handset based on two operating sytems – Symbian and Linux.

KDE Commit-Digest for 18th June 2006
In this week's KDE Commit-Digest: work begins on 3D molecule visualisation features for Kalzium. More progress in the Kopete "OSCAR (AIM) File Transfer" and "KDevelop C# Parser" Summer Of Code projects. An enhanced version of the custom iconset developed during the 1.4 phase is re-enabled as the default option in Amarok. Following the brand clarifications of last week, oKular is now known as okular. Kitten is renamed Strigi. Two security issues are addressed.
