As of today, the Microsoft Teams web app no longer supports Internet Explorer 11, as the Windows giant foretold in August. Microsoft says that customers using IE 11 with Teams can expect either degraded capabilities or the inability to connect at all. Redmond noted earlier this year that Teams usage had surged with so many people working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chromium Edge has been tweaked to prevent users installing PUA, Microsoft's going to Spain, plus there are a few more things about the gnomes at Redmond we didn't get around to revealing last week. First off, Microsoft has added a new feature into Chromium Edge in the form of protection against Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUA). Stuff like cryptomining software or adware that come unexpectedly along for the ride when a user downloads something free and seemingly innocuous.

How is it that our brains – the original face recognition program – can recognize somebody we know, even when they’re far away? As in, how do we recognize those we know in spite of their faces appearing to flatten out the further they are from us? Cognitive experts say we do it by learning a face’s configuration – the specific pattern of feature-to-feature measurements. Then, even as our friends’ faces get optically distorted by being closer or further away, our brains employ a mechanism called perceptual constancy that optically “corrects” face shape… At least, it does when we’re already familiar with how far apart our friends’ features are.

Recently, at a presentation I was giving on the newer features of MySQL 8.0, I noticed one person in the audience getting very upset. The more I talked about one feature, the more agitation I could see this one person getting. We're talking upset at a level where I was wondering if I was going to worry about my physical safety. The person in question finally snapped, "If I had known about that, it would have saved me four months of my life!"
