I'm impressed with this tiny, 100-percent free, open-source OS written in assembly. You programming buffs know that assembly, pretty much the mother of all languages, can work blistering fast when used correctly.

Open Source Alternative

Sun Microsystems plans to create more awareness and usage of open source with the rollout of its open source-based Java Desktop System (JDS) to secondary schools and institutions of higher education. The JDS, which was introduced late last year, consists of a fully integrated client environment based on open source components and industry standards and provides a complete desktop environment and productivity tools which includes the GNOME desktop environment, StarOffice Office Productivity Suite and a Linux operating system.
