What will The Open Pawn Project change in the desktop way then? Pawn is definitely a great leap forward in human/machine interaction. it uses human communication "tools" (light or no learning curve), open software project (which guarantees proper functions), it ignores obstacles put down by rudimentary input devices and leaves new chances for both hardware and software development.

Pawn personalizes the computer in much higher degree Those facts are giving a chance to vastly improve interface. today OSes suffer of legacy principles of interaction which were created for much smaller displays, much less data, slower machines, and, frankly for another way of living. KDE, GNOME, MAC OS X or Windows is no longer the leading part of the desktop evolution. Look at SUN's looking glass project. They have a stunning visual design. But the real news is none.

what's even more important is a new methology of software development which could hopefully bring some organizational benefits. this is the thing: we noticed that really big software application development projects often suffer of inertia. the never achievable goal of integrating applications into software suites, packs and similar takes a lot of people, a lot of organizational effort and a lot of energy.

Because those projects often last a long time, eventually even the good will and starting energy fades. The basic premises for the Pawn system is that the desktop metaphore should be used no more, but instead, an concept of environment should be established. that environment is singular creating "space". a space in which user works and creates seemingly not knowing of the "application" he/she uses. or the processes taking place "inside the machine".

So now forget the OLD word Desktop and replace it whidth TED(Tell&Do) envirement. Speak or tell the computer what you would like it to do. The Pawn project have a long way to go before it becomes mature to really compete. But all tools to be a serious threat to the common desktops are already here. The step to make a computer to behave like the one in the movie 2001 (Hal 9000) is not so far away. The question is do we want to have it. However a real AI engine is an another thing that have to be solved first, and that is not included in the Pawn project.

So what has the new release of the Pawn to offer. First of all a new help system and a much simpler installation procedure. So please download it and try it out. Try a revolutionary new desktop solution.
