'Cool it, Linus' - Bruce Perens
With Andrew Tridgell silent, apparently on legal advice, open source community leader Bruce Perens has stepped up to defend the work Tridgell did reverse engineering the protocols used by Bitkeeper. Bitkeeper is the closed source proprietary source code management tool that until last week, Linus Torvalds used to manage Linux kernel source code.
Does Open Source = Closed Mind?
It is difficult to ascribe any rational explanation to the vitriolic responses that descend on any reporter, analyst, rival vendor or industry observer that dares to voice any criticism of Linux or open source, no matter how constructive, logical or accurate. Security Patch for OpenOffice
Linuxlookup.com is reporting all users of OpenOffice.org 1.1.4 are urged to download and install this security patch. It addresses a problem noted in a recent advisory. That advisory states that there is a security risk in all circulating releases of OpenOffice.org. This patch fixes the problem in 1.1.4 but not in earlier or subsequent releases.

The companies Softcon and Gonicus were awarded the contract with the City of Munich, the capital of Bavaria, to create, configure and administer an Open Source base client for the 14,000 workstations in the city government in the IT migration project LiMux. That means that the future base client for the city government is to be based on the Debian Linux distribution. The City of Munich called for tenders all over Europe.
