Sysgo ELinOS v2.2 was selected as the top embedded Linux development system for 2003 by readers of the German magazine Elektronik in an annual reader survey. Sysgo claims that ELinOS is the "best selling" embedded Linux development environment in Europe.

As Linux Supplants Unix, Red Hat Cashes In

Although Red Hat's legal bills are beginning to mount, admitted chairman Matthew Szulik during Tuesday's earnings conference, the SCO cloud hanging over Linux has not stopped the software-subscription side of RH's business from rising 72% as compared to last year. Indeed Red Hat was able to reported a profit, for the fiscal year just closed, of $14 million. (Last year that figure was a $6.6 million loss.)

PCQuest Linux: A Fedora-based distro for India

PCQuest Linux 2004 is a new version of a Linux distro from the publishers of PCQuest, a popular 15-year-old computer magazine published in India. PCQuest distributed Slackware on CDs in 1996 and Red Hat in 1997. Later, PCQuest started making its own distribution, based on Red Hat, now Fedora. The three CDs that make up the distro came with the March 2004 issue of the magazine. I have been using the new distro for a week now, with some interesting results.

Red Hat "buy," target price raised

Analyst Sameer Nadkarni of WR Hambrecht reiterates his "buy" rating on Ret Hat [sic], while raising his estimates for the company. The target price has been raised to $26. Shares of Red Hat, a leading provider of open source Linux software, are currently trading at $19.41.

I'm very happy to announce a new document for inspiring KDE hackers, entitled "Common Programming Mistakes". The document aims to combine the experience of many of the top KDE developers about the Qt and KDE frameworks dos and don'ts. The way they were usually passed on to the next generation was by letting the youngsters make the mistakes and then yell at them in public. We will go over things, which are not necessarily bugs, but which make the code either slower or less readable. The document will be expanding as we see the need for it.

This release is a major event, marking the end of a three year development cycle by a group of volunteers and enthusiasts who have made this the most professional release of the GIMP ever. Slackware has Jumped to XFree 4.4

I am sure that everyone is aware of the controversial license changes that occurred with the new release of XFree. My take on the changes is that it makes it difficult for the major vendors to patch or include third party drivers.
