The makerspace is the next open source frontier
Welcome back, folks, to our third installment of my Six Degrees column. Thanks for the wondrous support over the past two installments. As always, keep your feedback flowing in the comments and feel free to drop me an email if you have topics you would like me to delve into.

antonym for "Open", the world of .NET seems to be going legitimately open
source.

Simple Ads Manager is a plugin that we’d evaluated about a year ago. It was deactivated, but we’d failed to remove it from the server after we’d determined that it wouldn’t meet our needs. Bad move. The cracker/hackers had found it.
Linux 4.0 released
It definitely matches the "v4.0 is supposed to be a
_stable_ release", and very much not about new experimental features
etc. I'm personally so much happier with time-based releases than the

Review: Sabayon 15.02 KDE
The major issue was that package management didn't work through the GUI or CLI. Whether the live system accurately portrayed issues with the installed distribution or inaccurately had separate issues, this is a deal-breaker (for me at least)
Git and GitHub for open source documentation

US Patent Office Gamed The System To Make Sure Patent 9 Million Wasn't A Crazy Troll Patent
As I'm sure you were carefully anticipating, on Tuesday, April 7th, the US Patent and Trademark Office issued patent 9,000,000. As you of course are already aware, over the past few decades, the USPTO has been rapidly ramping up the number of patents it approves. That's why, even though patents only have a lifetime of 20 years from the date of application, 1/3 of all issued patents are still in force today. Think about that.
