At the Fedora 21 Final Go/No-Go Meeting a few minutes ago, Fedora QA, Release Engineering, and Development agreed to Go with the Fedora 21 Final.

FOSS may no longer be under the big guns, but free tech certainly is. In other words, the battle lines have shifted. The fight is no longer over open source software licensing, which has been embraced — some say usurped — by big business. There are new battles now, in which the stakes are just as high, maybe even higher, than they ever were.

Since Docker got its start 18 months ago, the Docker Engine has been the core of the project, providing a container approach for application virtualization. The Docker Engine is now being joined by the Docker Machine for increased container deployment portability, Docker Swarm for clustering and Docker Compose for application assembly services.

"We're moving from a model where an organization runs a few Docker containers on a few hosts to running a large number of containers across many hosts," Docker CEO Ben Golub explained to eWEEK.

Even though Node.js is an open-source project, its direction is largely guided by the for-profit Joyent. And that doesn’t sit so well with some Node users/developers. A group of them just started a fork of Node.js called io.js, which is now living on GitHub and prepared to take the Node code in a community-driven direction.

Upgraded bug-fix versions (PAE and non-PAE) of MX-14 are now available. This version has fixed some bugs found in MX-14.2 and Debian upstream. Major applications have been upgraded. We have added some new features, e.g. MX-Tools. MX-14.3 is based on Debian 'Wheezy' and therefore uses sysVinit. Now that Debian has frozen 'Jessie' and has moved to systemd, MX-14.3 offers a rock-solid systemd-free experience for those that would prefer to stick with sysVinit. MX-14 series will be supported until the end of life of Debian 'Wheezy'. Features and changes since MX-14.2: in order to fit on a CD, Java has been removed; upgraded to Linux kernel 3.14; new MX-findshares; new libparted2; galculator upgraded to version 2.1.3; Iceweasel upgraded to version 31.2.0esr.

So it appears that the “significant number of users” that “will be able to securely and easily verify they’re human without actually having to solve a CAPTCHA” will be those already logged into the website. For the other very significant number of users that the system cannot uniquely identify, it will try the old technique – shove a reCAPTCHA in there faces.

I needed to do a bare-metal install of Fedora 21 today, and I used the beta image for the live Xfce Spin. I didn’t do anything special. The whole disk was devoted to Fedora. I encrypted everything.

The Ubuntu Touch operating system is almost ready and soon we'll start seeing various devices running it. Until that happens, we only have some leaked images to talk about, like the one that landed today.
