  • Linux and Life (Posted by annamese on Aug 2, 2012 8:22 PM CST)
  • Story Type: Tutorial
In Linux Mint 13 MATE, the file manager Caja is set to use the path bar instead of the location entry for the directory path. TLWIR Special: The Amazing Philosophy of Red Hat

Close your eyes and imagine this scenario: Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer wakes up one day and says: “God, I love LibreOffice! It is a great alternative to Microsoft Office, and it makes people more enthusiastic about office suites in general!” Would this ever happen in a BILLION years? Probably not. Yet Red Hat’s CEO, the amazing Linux gentleman named Jim Whitehurst, recently said that he loves CENTOS. Nothing could me more demonstrative of how differently the Free Software community operates and thinks. Hatred and fierce competition are slowly being replaced by sharing and collaboration. Is this a better system? Only history will be able to answer that question. But it will certainly be a fascinating ride.

I always come back to Zorin OS

This snowballed into an unhealthy obsession of trying out every Linux distro that I could. I tried Ubuntu (and the official variants Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu), Zorin OS, Mint, Debian, Fedora, OpenSuse, Mandriva, etc. And no matter which ones I try, I always come back to Zorin OS.

Microsoft Files Motion in Apple v. Samsung to Hide Patent License Agreement Terms

There's been a fascinating development in the Apple v. Samsung litigation. It is possible we'll get to see the cross-license agreement between Microsoft and Samsung that the parties announced in this press release [PDF], which mentioned that it also covered Android. If we get to see it, it would be the first time we get to see exactly what are the terms of such an agreement, because Microsoft always insists on an NDA.
