Days ago benchmarks were shared from OpenBenchmarking.org that compared AHCI and IDE modes under Linux when it came to the resulting disk performance. There was a fair amount of interest generated out of that so some AHCI vs. IDE mode comparisons from a Serial ATA 3.0 SSD on an Ubuntu Linux host were benchmarked at Phoronix.

In my desktop I use Xubuntu 12.04, and today i noticed that this distribution shippedd by default the Zeitgeist daemon, a thing that I’m not using at all and that is using resources of my system, so I’ve decided to remove this daemon totally from my system, please note that if you use Gnome 3 or Unity you could have some side effect, or perhaps the system will just become more faster, like the author of the article: Removing Zeitgeist Sped Up Unity .

MediaBox is the most simplistic media player you’ll ever use. It uses GStreamer and is able to playback all the files supported by it.

This means that you can play both music and video files using MediaBox to do it, using very little resources and a very simple way to choose the files you want to playback.

Let’s be realistic for a moment here. I believe that there is not a single Fedora user who doesn’t use repositories that conflict with Fedora’s policy and default selection ideology. Not even the most hardcore Fedora developers can use the completely useless system that Fedora is out of the box, without adding third party sources and pieces of proprietary software.
