Netflix has taken the wraps off of its ZooKeeper library and has given some insight to coming open source projects as well. The company announced four projects in its pipeline, and a portal on GitHub for its projects.

Red Hat, and their community effort, Fedora, are more or less enterprise-oriented. That being said, it's only natural they offer enterprise-specific tools that don't quite make sense on other desktop oriented operating systems. In the enterprise environment, where the system administrator has to manage lots of machines and installations, one tool that helps a lot is one that facilitates automated installations on several computers, using the same options for each of them. Instead of installing each system separately, the administrator just boots the installation media, tells the system where to find the options for installation and comes back after an hour to check on the system.

Marathon is a first-person shooter video game with a science fiction theme, developed and published by Bungie and was released in December 1994 for the Apple Macintosh. Marathon features action-heavy, first-person shooter gameplay similar to Doom. The game is renowned for having an intricate story line which is an essential element of its gameplay whereas most similar games devote minimal attention to plot for the sake of faster, simpler, more action-oriented gameplay. Aleph One is the open source continuation of Bungie's Marathon 2 game engine, available for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux.

The Linux Mint developers have done it! They've actually made GNOME 3 pleasant. That said, I still miss a few things from it, so I'm glad MATE is there; better yet, MATE turned out to be just as stable as GNOME 2.X.

According to IDC's Q3 2011 Server stats, Linux server revenues for the quarter grew to $2.3 billion. That's a 12.3 percent year-over-year gain. Overall, Linux holds an 18.6 share of total server revenues.

Over the last couple of years the KDE Mobile project has been evolving as it targeted many embedded platforms. Currently, the focus is on the shiny Nokia gadgets (N9 and N950) running the platform called Harmattan. Eleven talented developers met in person at a recent KDE Sprint, giving a boost to porting KDE Applications onto this platform, creating new working relationships, and discussing various issues around the KDE Mobile project for handsets.

All of them had the same problem: they would connect, but the connection would be extremely slow. I finally went to Google to try to figure out what was going wrong. There I found that I was not alone. There were several fixes posted but none of them worked right – they either still left me with a slow connection or made my Intel Pro 5100 ABGN wireless adapter unusable.

If you just throw a mobile app out there thinking it's just another channel to advertise your product, you're missing a golden opportunity to interact with your customers in a meaningful way.
