DistroWatch reports - Kalango Linux is a nicely designed Brazilian distribution based on Debian and Kurumin. After some seven months in development, version 3.2 was announced yesterday. The new release includes Linux kernel 2.6.11, OpenOffice.org 2.0, KDE 3.4.3, GNOME 2.10, as well as a number of popular applications, such as the amaroK media player, K3b CD/DVD burning utility, Azureus BitTorrent client, GIMP graphics manipulation software, Inkscape vector drawing application, Firefox web browser and Thunderbird email client.

Ubuntu 6.04 (Dapper Drake) daily builds have hit the Ubuntu servers. Dapper's goals: Substantial polish and integration, software discovery and installation, make network-wide enterprise updates easy to manage, consider LSB and related certification standards and support for deployment of Dapper on mission-critical servers. Screenshots have already surfaced.

DistroWatch reports - The second release candidate of Damn Small Linux 2.0 is now available for download and testing. From the release notes: Added more base timezones; enhanced LT modem detection; corrected myDSL menu with persistent home usage; updated kernel with SATA module support; enhanced Siag external load to use wget; enhanced German keyboard support; added a minimal version of Joe's Window Manager (see F3 at boot); enhanced Firefox for more mime types and Java; added GtkFind utility. Syslinux and embedded versions are also ready for download.

DistroWatch reports - Getting closer to the 1.0 release, the developers of PC-BSD have announced the first release candidate of the user-friendly operating system based on FreeBSD: PC-BSD 1.0 release candidate 1 is now available! This release is 'feature complete', for what was planned for the 1.0 version, and includes many enhancements and bug fixes over previous versions. It is also the first desktop based on FreeBSD 6.0.

grafpup.com states - Grafpup Linux is a desktop Linux operating system based closely on Puppy Linux. It's goal is to be as useful to graphic designers and other imaging professionals as possible while still remaining extremely small and fast. How small? Grafpup is a live cd of only 72mb with current versions of Gimp, Cinepaint, Inkscape, and Scribus!

pareto.uab.es/mcreel/ParallelKnoppix states - ParallelKnoppix is a remaster of the Knoppix live CD distibution of GNU Linux that allows setting up a cluster of machines for parallel processing using the LAM-MPI and/or MPICH implementations of MPI, as well as PVM. You can convert a room full of machines running Windows into a Linux cluster, and when you shut down, your Windows machines are in their original state.

poseidon.furg.br states - Poseidon Linux was created to be a friendly and complete desktop based on open source software for the academic/scientific community. Starting from version 2.0 there will be regular versions being released every 6 months (in April and October), what allows to the users to plan their upgrades.

Gnusolaris.org reports - Nexenta is a complete GNU-based open source operating system built on top of the OpenSolaris kernel and runtime. It is a result of our inspiration and desire to build a great system based on the best existing software: SunOS kernel and GNU software. We use Debian - one of the best existing software distribution/packaging mechanisms - to glue the numerous pieces together. Nexenta OS Pre-Alpha 1 has been released.

DistroWatch reports - Kaella is, effectively, a French edition of the popular KNOPPIX live CD. After many weeks of testing, version 2.1 has now been released for download. The new version is based on the CD edition of KNOPPIX 4.0.2, but it comes with OpenOffice.org 2.0.0, Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird 1.0.7, and a corrected French language module for KDE.

DistroWatch reports - Puppy Linux has been updated to version 1.0.6: Puppy Linux version 1.0.6 released. The two big items in this release are AbiWord 2.4.1 and the multisession DVD. With the 2.4 series, AbiWord has come of age. This is now professional wordprocessing, and Puppy enhances the pleasant experience with a large number of plugins included in the live CD, including grammar checker and equation editor...

Kurumin Linux is a Brazilian run-from-CD Linux distribution based on Knoppix. Its main features are excellent hardware auto-detection, support for Brazilian Portuguese and small size. Version 5.1 Alpha 3 has been released.

myah.mymyah.com states - There are many Linux-based Live CDs our there. So we've made sure Myah is different by including the programs you're going to use on a daily basis... To Windows users the unfamiliar Linux program names can be confusing. So we've changed the menus to make sense... Also: the user isn't hassled for any information during startup. Myah boots up completely on its own.

reactos.org states - The ReactOS® project is dedicated to making Free Software available to everyone by providing a ground-up implementation of a Microsoft Windows® XP compatible operating system. ReactOS aims to achieve complete binary compatibility with both applications and device drivers meant for NT and XP operating systems, by using a similar architecture and providing a complete and equivalent public interface.

The Debian Weekly News for October 25th, 2005 discusses the upcoming graphical frontend to the debian-installer as part of the most recent minutes of the monthly Debian Installer team meeting. It appears that after all of these years the text based Debian installation is finally getting the boot.

Belenix.sarovar.org states - BeleniX is a *NIX distribution that is built using the OpenSolaris source base. It is currently a LiveCD distribution but is intended to grow into a complete distro that can be installed to hard disk. Version 0.2 of BeleniX has been released and it is now a LiveCD that can boot into a Graphical XFce4 desktop and provides a bunch of useful applications.

DistroWatch reports - A new test CD image of PCLinuxOS has been released: "PCLinuxOS .92 Test 01 is available. PCLinuxOS .92 features an updated 2.6.12 kernel, hotplug has been moved to udev to provide faster boot times. The fabulous KDE has been updated to version 3.4.3. KOffice replaces Openoffice on the live CD. OpenOffice 2.0 can be installed after a hard drive install. X.Org has been updated to X.Org 6.9cvs. Approximately 400 package update brings PCLinuxOS .92 up to date with the latest open source applications....
