GNU/Linux vs. Linux, when explaining it.

"A lot of people say calling Debian, Fedora, or Slackware, GNU/Linux opposed to calling it Linux, makes it harder to explain to people. An example, Bob could tell Sarah “You should use Fedora. It will work with your hardware, it’s fast, and it’s free” and Sarah might ask “What’s Fedora?” and Bob would tell her “It’s Linux.” and Sarah will understand. Wrong."

This is a case of Geek TMI. Anyone who is genuinely interested, just sit them down at a well-set up Linux box, help them get started, and let them play with it. Call it Linux, call it the distribution name, just keep it short, shut up, and let it sell itself. The finer points can come later.

But now that I think of it, TC's reference makes perfect sense.
