Come and celebrate 40 years of Unix! Ohio Linux Fests keynote speaker this year is none other than the inventor of the pipe! Smokin'! Well, not that kind of pipe, actually the kind that shell programmers and even users of other operating systems have taken for granted for years.
Ohio Linux Fest The GatheringOLF has more than a technological focus it's about the community it's about Free Software it's about human networking. It brings people together in a real world version of social networking this is your chance to meet with the Linux Community and discuss just about anything relevant to the changing world of Free Software. People come to OLF to meet with others that have helped create things like the backbone of the Internet, FireFox, Linux and the Apache web server. Doug McIlroy -- The Father of the Unix PipeThe featured keynote speaker this year is Doug McIlroy a major contributor to the great grandfather of Linux and a direct contributor to code that powers many of the Unix products of today. Doug invented the concept of pipes inter-process data streams that no true Unix / Linux geek can live without. This concept made its way into less stable products as well from other proprietary vendors.
Shawn Powers -- The "Gadget Guy""gadget guy" Powers is know for the Linux Journal tech tip of the week where he demonstrates wonderful things that you can do with Linux today. I didn't know that you could Tweet from the command line, did you?Even though people look to Shawn for what's up and coming, his keynote focuses upon a very real and present topic: "Saving the Economy with Linux." In this talk he will share how he integrated free and open source solutions as the Technology Director for a school district in northern Michigan. Not only does free and open source software save the taxpayer money, it is an investment in the people and the community.
