"With the up coming release of GIMP 3.0, I think that GIMP should be renamed to simply “Wilber.” Though it would no longer be an acronym for “GNU Image Manipulation Program”, but it would totally eliminate any possibly offensive terminology in exchange for a name everyone can love, especially the young, and it would give GIMP a chance at the big times."

The young don't remember Wylbur I guess (weren't born yet).

Next thing you know they'll want to name it Netware or (fill in better example here please!).

Maybe a name with a _shop suffix, such as Wilburshop ?? After all, there already IS GIMPshop (see http://www.gimpshop.com/) name-modeled after Adobe Photoshop.

It's "the Gimp" I don't want no nonesense renaming it. Do a rebranded version from the same codebase for those "Professionals" and call it something boring like "Genuine Image Manipulator Profressional"

But, isn't the name offensive to people who have a bad leg?

Personally I like technical names. GIMP, Kmail, that way the name reminds me what it's function is. Useful in a long menu list, or when trying to remember "now what's the name of that ap again?"
