EDE (Equinox Desktop Environment) is a desktop for UNIX-like operating systems. Main features of EDE are speed and responsiveness, low resource usage and familiar look and feel. Simply said, desktop that doesn't get on your way.

This major release adds a lot of new goodies to be put here. The most important is how EDE now fully uses FLTK (no more eFLTK and forks), it is interoperable with other toolkits (like gtk) and external applications.

As opposed to...

The Solstice Desktop Environment aka Unity which gets on your way.
How about the Eclipse D.E., which gets between you and Oracle (formerly Sun)?

and in Debian

What will it be called in the Debian repository since a package of the same name exists? .. .. .. EDE: File manager / Makefile generator for Emacsen
Equinox Desktop Environment or just Equinox, I imagine.
Maybe not. The only result searching Packages.Debian.Org for "equinox" is:

Package libequinox-osgi-java

Not even in experimental.
He was asking what it will be called rather than what it is called. EDE is NOT packaged for Debian. As large as the Debian repository is there is still lots of software that isn't included.
