How to adjust the brightness of the monitor of your laptop running Linux

Sometimes the display brightness on laptops running Linux does not adjust properly or can't be controlled (it seems) from the desktop. Here's a solution that will work for some.

This is the kludge you may need to use if your Linux-running laptop refuses to let you adjust or set the display brightness. I hope it works for you!

Just add acpi_osi=Linux to the kernel command line and reboot. Then using the Fn button and brightness sliders should work.
