In open source, the quality of one's work matters more than anything else, yet women and minorities are even more underrepresented here than they are in the tech world in general.

Open source culture—in theory and largely in practice—is about as meritocratic as can be. Yet it's also nearly as dominated by white males as can be. Why is that?
