The Tor project released Tor Browser 16.0 today as a major update to this open-source, cross-platform, and free web browser designed to protect you against tracking, surveillance, and censorship using the Tor anonymous network.

Based on the Mozilla Firefox 153 ESR (Extended Support Release) series, the Tor Browser 16.0 release introduces native support for 64-bit ARM (AArch64) machines on Linux, such as Raspberry Pis and Apple Silicon Macs, and a complete redesign of the Settings page based on a parallel redesign shipped in Firefox in June.

The redesigned Settings page brings a cleaner layout, updated navigation, and clearer labels and descriptions, making it easier to find, understand, and manage the browser’s options. The long-standing “General” page has been retired, with its contents now distributed across new pages for Appearance, Downloads, Tabs and browsing, Accessibility, and Languages.
