IBM is biggest spender, Sun is not Linux-hearted

IBM's so far spent about $4G on Linux initiatives (to say nothing of, forex, defending themselves against TSG) and reaped far more than that back elsewhere in boosted business.

Sun aren't Linux "boosters", they're Linux "hedgers" and until they get over this split personality they're going nowhere with extreme rapidity. Little if any of their $1.9G infusion will go to Linux, and by itself it's not a big enough dose for them to survive what is otherwise a cash-bleeding situation for very long.

If you were rating companies as "biggest spender" on a pro-rata basis, how do you figure in tiny companies like one local (Perth, Western Australia) Linux shop http://www.linuxit.com.au/ which spend a significant part of their earnings "boosting" Linux and garner additional exposure by scooting around in bright little penguin-covered vehicles? Or another http://www.ilaw.com.au/ whose members devote large amounts of expensive time to the same purpose?
