Being a Unix Guru doesn't make one to be a Linux desktop usability expert.

Fedora is a single desktop distribution and does not represent every Linux desktop distributions.

A "Rusty" master of OS is an obsolete master of the OS, especially when the OS is progressing at the high pace of the Linux desktop.

If he really wanted to find out about the state of the Linux Desktop, he should have checked out Mepis, PCLinuxOS, or Suse. For some reason, this "guru" doesn't even acknowledge their existence. I find that very odd or most probably he is just un-informed. So much for being a "guru"

What he claims to have encountered with Fedora are things that don't even exist in the better distros.

k3b is so intuitive and user friendly it is pathetic to ask for more documentation. Everything is clear and automatically configured.

It take 15 minutes to install Mepis, 45 minute for PCLinuxOS, about 1 hour for Suse from start to finish.

Thunderbird and the majority of desktop applications are all installed for the user by default.

Mepis and PCLinuxOS use Synaptic. It is as easy as clicking an item to install/update or remove any of the thousands of application that are available. Synaptic put MS installer to shame.

Real Player 10 is already installed by default. If not, one click in Synaptic and it is ready to be launched.

KDE documentation are very professional and excellent. Do they need more work, of course they do. all documentations are never complete and they always can take more improvement.

This article is useless and the guy doesn't know what he is talking about. Plain and simple.
