I have actually done several system deliveries (with some pretty high profile customers) that were Linux on intel (not the PPC) as front ends to db servers (think Oracle10g and Lotus notes) and so far everyone has been pretty happy with it. The only problem that has come up are stray USB interrupts because of the shared keyboard and mouse - however - they do not actually break anything.

So far so good even on the intel line. I recall from IBM's presentation at Ohio Linuxfest intel is not the focus of development but it still runs quite well.

From what I have seen, it should not be a problem for IBM to keep up this particular product and hopefully add even more clout to Linux and Open Source.
