Oracle's plan is pretty clear - leverage the fact that people are hooked on these apps, and (for a while at least) keep making them better and more attractive. The only question is, as they embed themselves into the core of certain very popular open source projects, will they keep it open source in the long run? If we are to learn from the past practices of certain tech giants, one might believe that they're betting on the junkie eventually paying anything required to keep the heroin drip coming.

majones: This is scary for me. I did Oracle financials back in the early 1990's. I've followed the company and still have friends in high places. If Microsoft had thought of this, we'd be working on a new OS right now.
