Saying they are open source is a trick

I have to agree with Robin that we get so many press releases from people saying they are open source.

At one time, it was unusual. But then, companies started to use open source components and claimed they were open source. But, they didn't really provide the code. The had frosted widgets (proprietary pieces) in their products.

Next, people started saying they were open source and were getting on the band wagon. But their hearts aren't in it and it's just a commercial decision.

If you look at 42go which is now ISPConfig, those guys didn't announce anything. Then opened a project at Sourceforge.net and put their code up. They then put up Howtoforge.com and gave away their documentation too. No tricks, just a here's the code, use it, if you need our help here's how you can reach us.
