Recently, I tried to connect my nokia7610 to my laptop using xgnokii - the frontend for gnokii. However, the program shuts down immediately and this is what I get:

Lock file error. Exiting Gnokii serial_open: open: Permission denied Couldn't open FBUS device: Permission denied Gnokii serial_open: open: Permission denied Couldn't open FBUS device: Permission denied Gnokii serial_open: open: Permission denied Couldn't open FBUS device: Permission denied GSM/FBUS init failed!

Does any of you have experience with gnokii? Or is there another way to connect my phone?

Not a GUI solution but Under Ubuntu5.10 I use set of three tools: pppconfig pon poff

They are very simple command line tools and pppconfig is used for settng up connection. Say you have given this connection name Test. Then use command "pon Test" to connect and "poff" to diconnect.
